Tenants Victoria has teamed up with Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre (BMCLC) to trial a brand new service offering to private renters in Melbourne’s west.
Five tenancy advice clinics will be held in various locations in St Albans, Melton and Sunshine from late March to early May. Local tenants from the private rental market will be able to receive advice on a range of residential tenancy matters from a lawyer specialising in this area of law.
“We understand firsthand the struggles that renters face when in dispute with their landlords,” says Tenants Victoria Senior Solicitor, Ben Cording.
“Too many renters feel defeated and just give up when they don’t have access to quick and easy-to-digest information about their tenancy issue. It often helps to speak with someone directly who has the right skills and knowledge to guide you in the right direction.”
“This partnership is seeking to empower tenants and ensure that when a dispute happens, tenants know their rights and feel secure in the fact that there are options available to them.”
Working with BMCLC to provide these ‘pop-up’ style advice clinics is a breath of fresh air for Tenants Victoria, whose own drop-in service closed in early July due to a loss of funding.
Clinics will be held in late March and early May:
- Monday, 19 March – St Albans
- Monday, 26 March – Melton
- Monday, 9 April – St Albans
- Monday, 16 April – Melton
- Wednesday, 2 May – Sunshine
Assistance at these clinics will be provided by appointment only by calling BMCLC on 03 8312 2020. These clinics will be open to private tenants living in one of the following suburbs:
